Thermal Grizzly - Delid-Die-Mate - AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU Delid Tool - Processor Heatspreader Removing Tool - Delidding Tool Develop
The Ryzen 7000 Delid-Die-Mate is a tool designed specically for removing the heat spreaders on AMD Ryzen 7000 processors, a process commonly referred to as delidding. By removing the heat spreader, the CPUs can be cooled using the Direct Die method, where the CPU cooler is directly mounted onto the CPU dies and the I/O die. This eliminates the heat spreader from the cooling circuit, resulting in optimized heat transfer from the die to the CPU cooler. Delidding and using the Direct Die method on Ryzen 7000 processors serve several advantages. While delidding is typically done to replace the thermal interface material (TIM) between the CPU die and the heat spreader with higher-quality thermal paste or liquid metal, it is not possible with soldered Ryzen 7000 processors. Instead, delidding is primarily done to enable the direct mounting of the CPU cooler onto the CPU dies. By omitting the heat spreader and directly mounting the cooler on the dies, signicant temperature reductions of 10-20C can be achieved, especially when using liquid metal TIM such as Conductonaut. This has been demonstrated through tests conducted by prominent content creators and tech YouTubers, including Roman der8auer Hartung and Jason JayzTwoCents Langevin. The impressive temperature improvements achieved through the Direct Die method are inuenced, in part, by the design of the Ryzen 7000 processors heat spreaders. The heat spreaders used on the AM5 platform, introduced with Ryzen 7000, are thicker compared to older heat spreaders like those used on AM4. This change was implemented to ensure compatibility between older CPU coolers designed for AM4 and the AM5 platform. Additionally, the surface area of the Ryzen 7000 heat spreaders is smaller, approximately 910 mm, compared to AM4s 1,300 mm. Overall, the Ryzen 7000 Delid-Die-Mate tool allows for delidding and enables the use of the Direct Die cooling method on Ryzen 7000 processors, resulting in improved temperature management and potential performance gains.
