What the E-Marker chip does — and why it matters
The USB-C specification limits cables without an E-Marker to 3A / 60W maximum. This is a safety ceiling built into the standard — not a marketing choice. To safely carry 5A (required for 100W at 20V), the cable must contain an E-Marker IC that electronically identifies itself to the charger and device, confirming it is rated for the higher current. Without this chip, the charger and device will negotiate down to 60W even if your charger is rated for more. This cable's E-Marker chip makes 100W delivery possible — and eliminates the risk of overcurrent damage to your devices.
Why cable length matters for charging
Longer cables carry higher resistance, which reduces the power that reaches the device. Cheap 6-foot cables that skip quality wire gauge will lose meaningful wattage over the length of the cable, resulting in slower charging despite the high-wattage charger. This cable uses a heavier internal conductor gauge specifically chosen to maintain full 100W delivery at 6 feet — the resistance is measured and certified as part of the E-Marker validation process.
Data transfer: more than just a charging cable
At 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2, this cable is fast enough to use as a data transfer cable between devices, connect an external SSD for video editing, or drive a 4K display via USB-C Alt Mode on supported laptops. Most USB-C cables on the market only support USB 2.0 data speeds (480Mbps) — roughly 20 times slower. Will this charge my MacBook Pro at full 96W / 140W speed? This cable supports up to 100W. MacBook Pros that ship with 96W or 140W chargers will charge at 96W through this cable — close to maximum. The 140W charging on M3/M4 Pro Max models requires a 140W-rated cable for absolute peak speed.
Does it work with 65W Dell and HP laptop chargers? Yes. The cable negotiates the correct wattage with both the charger and device. If your charger is 65W and your laptop requests 65W, that is exactly what is delivered — no overvoltage risk.
Can I use it for video output? On laptops and iPads that support USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode (MacBook, iPad Pro, Dell XPS, HP Spectre), yes — up to 4K video output is supported depending on the device.
